A Society of Patriotic Ladies- Image

This is an iconic image of the revolution showing women joining together in North Carolina to agree the boycott of British goods. This is in response to the Continental Congress resolution in 1774 to boycott English goods. In particular, these women are boycotting tea which will lead to the boston Tea Party. Within the image, you see women and men conversing together. It appears that the men are just suggesting to the women what they should do while the women are signing the paper and taking action.

Something that I gained from this image is the role of women in the boycott of British goods. though the men governing may of made the resolution, the women are the ones that actually took the action within their community to make the difference. I also gained from this image a visual of the style of what the patrons of this era wore and appeared like. I also noticed that not only are their white women in this photo but those of color that helped lead the revolution.

This photo answers my guiding questions by showing a visual that women had a leading role in the revolution. The photo shows a prominent representation of women taking action within the revolution. It also brings to life the culture of the time period for women and demonstrates the power that they held.
